This series of documentary screenings is a partnership between UCR Palm Desert and the City of Palm Desert's Public Art Program, featuring the fascinating stories of artists and their memorable artworks. These free movies are open to the public.
6 p.m. Jan. 14 - Yarn
This documentary showcases the artists who are redefining the tradition of knit and crochet, bringing yarn out of the house and into the world, from wool graffiti artists to circus performers.
6 p.m. Feb. 11 - Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child
A thoughtful portrait of a renowned artist, this documentary shines the spotlight on New York City painter Jean-Michel Basquiat. Featuring extensive interviews, the production reveals how he dealt with being a black artist in a predominantly white field.
6 p.m. March 11 - Leonora Carrington: The Lost Surrealist
British surrealist Leonora Carrington was a key part of the surrealist movement during its heyday in Paris and yet, until recently, remained a virtual unknown in the country of her birth. This film explores her dramatic evolution from British debutante to artist in exile, living out her days in Mexico City, and takes us on a journey into her darkly strange and cinematic world.
