City of Palm Desert Public Art Documentary Series

This series of documentary screenings is a partnership between UCR Palm Desert and the City of Palm Desert's Public Art Program, featuring the fascinating stories of artists and their memorable artworks. These free movies are open to the public.

NOTE: This series has ended for 2023 but will return in 2024!


Chihuly, Roll the Dice

The Palm Desert Public Art Documentary Film Series returns with Chihuly: Roll the Dice, the first of four art-themed documentaries to be screened in the coming months. Chihuly: Roll the Dice follows artist Dale Chihuly as he tests his own resolve and challenges his team to push the glass medium to its physical limits in pursuit of a new concept. 

 

Ursula von Rydingsvard: Into Her Own

The second in the Palm Desert Public Art Documentary Film Series is an artistic biography of one of the few women in the world working in monumental sculpture. Don't miss the story of a woman's struggle to overcome the hardship of her upbringing and follow her calling to become an artist.

The third doc in the Palm Desert Public Art Documentary Series is a feature-length film directed by Pamela Tom about the renowned Chinese American artist Tyrus Wong, whose paintings became the inspiration for the classic animated feature Bambi.
