Tuesdays With Spirit and Soul: A Film Series on Conscious Aging

UCR Osher Lifelong LearningUCR Palm Desert Center, along with The Peacock Solution and Graceful Passages present the second season of Tuesdays With Spirit and Soul, a documentary film series and symposium designed to start mindful conversations, exploring the concepts of empowerment, challenge cultural norms, and cultivate a more meaningful, authentic life. The film series includes three films, all of which help to build momentum as well as spur reflection and thought for a symposium in May, featuring special guest speaker Marianne Williamson, world renowned author and lecturer. All events take place at the UCR Palm Desert Center. All screenings begin at 6:30 at the UCR Palm Desert Auditorium. RSVPs strongly recommended for this popular series. Free and open to the public including parking.

Sat. Mar. 19, 2016: Conscious Living & Aging: An Intergenerational Symposium

Pulling together concepts, awakenings, revelations, and inspirations from the three documentary films shown in our series (States of Grace, A Beautiful Equation, and Homes on the Range) this one day symposium will further expand consciousness and open doors to new ideas and thinking, challenging attendees to explore beyond what they think they know to be true, about themselves and about our individual and collective potential. The day will include thought-provoking speakers, including internationally acclaimed spiritual author and lecturer Marianne Williamson, dynamic, energetic panels, and engaging, and at times, revealing group and individual exercises. This symposium will celebrate spirituality, conscious living and aging in place, with the underlying awareness that learning and growth takes place throughout our entire lifespan. 1:00 PM. Mar. 8, 2016: "Homes on the Range"

The small town of Sheridan, Wyoming decides it must change how it cares for its elders. The community leaders make a grassroots effort to build Green Houses, group living spaces that provide an alternative to traditional nursing homes. What they do will change the community for generations. Discussion and Q&A with Dale Bell, executive producer and director, and experts specializing in caring for elders and people with disabilities follows the film.

Feb. 9, 2016: "A Beautiful Equation"

Laughter, spontaneity, and good stories - all are part of this documentary journey with eight grandmothers as they prepare for a stage play about two historic physicists - Albert Einstein and Niels Bohr. The women and their stories reveal the beautiful humanitarian ideals that these two men possessed as well as their stance on issues of trust, fairness, education, peace and justice, and more. As they spin the tales of Einstein and Bohr with grace, depth, and wit, each grandmother also shares her diverse perspective and background, adding vivid expression to the personal lives of the scientists while also revealing the strength and beauty of elder women. Q&A with director, Robin Truesdale will follow the screening.

Jan. 12, 2016: "States of Grace"

After surviving a near-fatal head-on collision on the Golden Gate Bridge, Dr. Grace Dammann, a physician renowned for her work on HIV/AIDS, struggles to come to terms with her permanent disability and discovers new meaning in her radically altered life. Her longtime partner cares for her and their disabled teenage daughter as the family embarks on a journey of loss, resilience, and renewal. Discussion and Q&A with Grace Dammann and director/producer Helen Cohen followed the film.
